Designing Your Work Time

“Working 9 to 5, what a way to make a living.

Barely getting by, it’s all taking and no giving.”

Ah, Dolly Parton! She hit the nail on the head with this classic hit. The traditional work schedule of going to an office Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm has been plaguing the workforce since the early part of the 19th century. Originating from an agreement between factory owners and workers in northern Britain, the weekend was set aside as a time of leisure and it was mutually agreed that workers would return on Monday rested and sober, ready to work.

Do you consider yourself a curious person? I hope so! Today you will have the chance to be curious about your own future.

Last week we explored the idea of designing your life so that you are ridiculously happy. Did you miss it? Check out the post, Life by Design, and leave a comment to let me know if you think sheer and utter happiness is a concept that is far fetched or something that is within your grasp.

Life by Design

I am ridiculously happy! How about you?

Only 6 years ago, happy was not an adjective I could have used to describe my life. Don’t get me wrong, things were fine. Work was fine. Life was fine. Everything was fine. But if someone had asked me then if I was ridiculously happy, I would have answered with a laugh that in fact, no, I wasn’t.

Today, I invite you to stop and ask yourself honestly- Am I ridiculously happy?

The thing is, we live in a fast-paced world and sometimes it feels as though life is whizzing by. Between family, work, and whatever other commitments we all have it is rare to take the time to stop and reflect. Do you feel this way too? Overwhelmed. Over-scheduled. Over-committed.
